THE
HOUSING CRISIS

The Cost of Housing is a HUGE CHALLENGE for so many, and the problem is not going away by itself.
THE CRISIS

There is an intense, and escalating need for all types of housing in Davie, including workforce housing, that is still not being addressed.

Attainable Housing, sometimes referred to as “workforce” housing, provides homes for people such as Teachers, Nurses, Police, Firefighters, Medical Technologists, Retail Workers and Government Employees. It is NOT funded by the government in any way but simply the legal and moral obligation of a community to provide local housing options for all working people.

Without adequate Attainable Housing, a community suffers financially*, and risks the very real threat of losing basic services, such as teachers and police protections.**

Over a decade ago, the Town of Davie recognized that we have a problem and developed a Comprehensive Plan with “Goals, Objectives and Policies” to address the Affordable Housing Crisis, but the demand for housing has skyrocketed beyond supply.

Legally, we owe it to the people of Davie to provide ample Attainable Housing. But don’t our workers also deserve the best possible VALUE in housing?

We need to stand up to those who want land exclusively for million dollar properties!

Home Prices and Rents
Have Surged

The Real Estate Boom, particularly in our area, has caused more pressure, less Attainable Housing, and it is now a crisis that is not going to go away by itself.

In the past year, rents skyrocketed in South Florida, and were the highest increases in the country. According to Redfin, rents increased 36 percent in West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.***

“The median listing price for a home in Davie is approximately a half-million dollars. Our Local Government needs to act, and they need to act now!”

The Reserve at Rexmere will be a beautifully planned community, with a small number of affordable homes adjacent to Rexmere Village. The Reserve will do more than simply relieve some of the pressure on the Attainable Housing crisis here in Davie, it will also serve as an example of how other communities in Davie (and townships everywhere) can provide the kind of value and lifestyle that our treasured, and essential, workforce deserves.
